Officers Mark Silver Jubilee of Commissioning at IMA

Chandigarh, June 16: Members of the 104 Regular Course and 87 Technical Graduate Course, commissioned during the 1999 Kargil conflict, reunited at the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their passing out. Around 200 officers, their families, and next of kin of fallen comrades attended. A commemorative course flag was carried across various global landmarks. The batch has earned over 40 gallantry awards, including the Ashok Chakra awarded to Maj Sandeep Unnikrishnan.

Six Missing After Boat Capsizes in Ganga River

Patna, June 16: A boat capsized in the Ganga river near Umanath ghat in Barh sub-division of Patna district on Sunday morning, resulting in six missing persons. The boat, carrying 17 people, mostly family members, overturned around 9:15 am. Eleven individuals have been rescued, with some swimming to safety. The search for the six missing persons continues, according to Sub-Divisional Magistrate Shubham Kumar.

High-Level Visits Follow Modi Government’s Swearing-In

New Delhi, June 15: Following the June 9 swearing-in ceremony, the Modi government will engage in high-level diplomatic visits. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will visit Sri Lanka on June 20, and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will arrive on June 21. Key discussions include investment in Bangladesh’s Teesta river basin project.

Sahitya Akademi Announces Yuva Puraskar and Bal Sahitya Puraskar Winners

New Delhi, June 15: The Sahitya Akademi announced the Yuva Puraskar for 23 writers, including English writer K. Vaishali for her memoir “Homeless: Growing Up Lesbian And Dyslexic In India” and Hindi author Gaurav Pandey. Randhir’s Punjabi poetry book “Khat Jo Likhno Reh Gaye” was also honored. Additionally, 24 writers received the Bal Sahitya Puraskar, with Kuldeep Singh Deep and Bishan Singh ‘Dardi’ among the winners. Avtar Singh, a retired Punjabi professor, was awarded the Bhasha Samman for 2023.
