SC Orders Release of YouTuber Savukku Shankar After Tamil Nadu Revokes Detention
The Supreme Court ordered the release of YouTuber Savukku Shankar after the Tamil Nadu government revoked his detention under the Goondas Act, following the State’s Advisory Board decision. The court was hearing petitions filed by Shankar’s mother, A. Kamala. Shankar had faced 15 FIRs for remarks made in an online interview, which were seen as derogatory to women police personnel. The court previously criticized the State’s repeated use of preventive detention against Shankar, with his counsel alleging misuse of the Goondas Act and harassment by the government.
