Assam Aims to Eradicate Child Marriage by 2026: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced efforts to end child marriage in the state by 2026. He launched the Mukha Mantri Nijut Moina scheme, providing monthly payments to 10 lakh girls for higher education if they remain unmarried until graduation. The scheme, with a ₹1,500-crore budget, offers stipends of ₹1,000 to ₹2,500 per month based on education level, excluding daughters of Ministers, MPs, and MLAs.
