Divya Deshmukh Creates History as India’s First Women’s World Cup Winner

Indian teenager Divya Deshmukh scripted history by winning the Women’s Chess World Cup in Batumi, Georgia, defeating Koneru Humpy in tiebreakers. At 19, she not only became India’s first women’s World Cup champion but also achieved the Grandmaster title, becoming India’s 88th GM and fourth Indian woman to do so. Previously, Divya clinched the World Junior Championship and contributed to India’s Chess Olympiad gold. Her victory secures a spot in the Candidates tournament.
