India, Japan Discuss PM Modi’s Visit and Bullet Train Project

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met Japanese Vice-Minister Takehiro Funakoshi in Delhi to prepare for PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Japan next month. Talks focused on strengthening ties, supply chain resilience, and progress on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project. Japan plans to gift India two advanced E-10 Shinkansen trains, to debut in both countries. The Gujarat segment will finish by December 2027; the full project by December 2029. Discussions also covered defense, economic security, tech, and critical minerals for EVs amid China’s export restrictions.
